History

A Rich History and Heritage in Middle Tennessee

On December 31, 1996, the College was incorporated with the Secretary of State of the State of Tennessee. Application was made for college status with the Tennessee Higher Education Commission; approval was given in April 1997. The original approval for the College was for the baccalaureate degree to be granted in two majors. The degrees offered were modified by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) on January 28, 1999, to include the Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Ethics as well as Leadership and Ministry. In May 2003, THEC approved the granting of the Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Ethics, in Leadership and Ministry, and in Worship and Music.

The College enrolled its first student in credit and non-credit courses in the fall of 1998. On August 13, 2000, Williamson Christian College had its first Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremony. The College began with a strong orientation to provide both onsite and online access to its constituencies.

During the year 2000 Williamson Christian College obtained Candidate for Accreditation Status with Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). Accreditation by TRACS was effective March 20, 2002. In April 2003 THEC approved a new major in Music and Worship. In May 2003 THEC approved the granting of the Bachelor of Science degrees.

In February 2007 Williamson Christian achieved full accreditation with ABHE after receiving Applicant Status in 2000 and Candidate Status in 2003.

The College began with a four member Board of Trustees in 1997 composed of Jerry Dibblee, Chair, Jackie Oosting, Dorsey Tynes and Leonard Isaacs.  Other persons to serve as Chairman of the Board have included Dorsey Tynes, Leonard Isaacs and Dr. Ed Smith.  The Board of Trustees now has 13 members with Ed Alexander, Chair, Tom Andrews, Vice Chair and Jon Gillett, Secrretary-Treasurer.
